This needs to be mandatory ‘good human’ training for everybody...

...for someone who considers sharing emotion anathema to existence, I was shocked at my ability to open... and that speaks to the class’ and facilitators’ intentional defense of the safe space. :) Awesome stuff.

I have been so grateful for the class! And passing on the info to so many! Even people I don’t know that well 😂

What to Expect

Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) is an 8-week online course designed to help build emotional resilience. Participants will meet old wounds in new ways, develop practical skills, and build the emotional capacity to face new challenges from a place of strength.

Over eight weekly 2-hour experiential classes plus one half-day online silent mini-retreat, participants consider how they typically react when difficulties arise and then learn the skills to respond to themselves with the same kindness and compassion they would offer a dear friend.

Participants will be introduced to meditation and mindfulness practices that are engaging and accessible. Breakout rooms and group discussions deepen participants’ experience and create a sense of community.

Thousands of academic articles on self-compassion point to the transformative power of meeting pain with kindness. Self-compassion enhances wellbeing and the capacity for perseverance.

No previous meditation experience necessary!

Through MSC, you will learn to:

  • Build and apply self-compassion practices that heal, sustain, and motivate.

  • Recognize the tendency to react to suffering with self-criticism.

  • Increase moment-to-moment awareness, especially in the context of difficult situations and emotions.

  • Use awareness and self-compassion to transform difficult relationships.

  • Practice savoring and gratitude to shift negativity bias.

  • Clarify values and learn to orient yourself in support of those values.

  • Develop “pocket practices” for self-compassion on the go.

  • Improve your comfort and ease with meditation.

I am LOVING the MSC program. I will be sad when it’s over. I look forward to others. It’s been wonderful.

MSC Participant Feedback

“I really enjoyed MSC. I learned a lot. I enjoyed conversation with the others in the group. I truly think it would benefit healthcare professionals and help prevent burnout and improve resilience.

I knew I was feeling burnt out by work and life, which is so common these days. I felt that in the Emergency Department I wasn't having the bandwidth for the compassion my patients deserved.

Taking MSC helped me to heal a bit and that has allowed me to reconnect internally and really open me back up to being able to offer more compassion and patience at home and at work.

I am definitely not perfect! But work in progress. I would love to continue my practice and honestly would love to eventually become someone who can help others with mindful practice.” - Kristin D.

“I loved the meditations " - Lori C.

"Very rewarding experience… Katie and Michael both have a warm and calming vibe.” - Judy H.

“It was transformative to have a “room” for me to return to where a state of optimism was normative while still allowing room for suffering with space and time to process and dispel, without guilt. We are all imperfect humans and we all struggle with something. Feeling safe to be vulnerable and trust this group made me feel proud.

I am grateful to have learned of the beauty and ease of meditation when it was introduced as a “pocket practice,” which suddenly made meditation and all of its benefits feel accessible and possible every day.” - Ana K.

“I was surprised at how quickly I was able to buy in and bare all… " - Jim M.

“The space that Katie and Michael created was reliably safe, warm, playful, and experiential… As an ACT practitioner, I appreciated how MSC can easily find a home in the hexaflex model " - Steve S.
